42. My Job

I’ve been babysitting for as long as I can remember. I realized how much I loved kids when my little brother and sister were born. Over the years I transitioned from babysitter to nanny. It s funny how close and connected I feel to the kids I watch; they are my kiddies or that’s what I like to call them at least. During the school year I wait at their bus stop when they get home from school. We do their homework and learn all of their spelling words. For dinner I have to make sure they have a balanced meal, but some nights ill take them out for ice cream or we will bake cookies. We practice volleyball serves and use erasers for Brett to practice his football positions. On hectic nights we are rushing around trying to find KK’s favorite leotard and we somehow manage to get Brett to basketball practice on time. In the Summer I spend ten hours a day with them; from the moment they wake up until after they eat dinner. They are like my family and at times we fight like families do. They throw temper tantrums and refuse to get in the car for gymnastics or have quarrels over silly bands. I miss them when I’m here at school and visit them when I go home for the weekend. This summer I have two families that I am going to nanny for. Basically I will have a full schedule all day everyday, but it will be worth it. There are not many people who can say they love their job, but I can truly say that I do!

  1. The youngsters can be a handful, especially when silly bands are involved in the equation. Kids are wonderful though, and it's a great job if you love family, and kids. Sounds like your a natural nurturer (smile).

  7. My sister is a live-in nanny and I always wondered how she did it. I'm glad there are babysitters like you because it means that I don't get stuck doing it!
